Some of Our Favorite Places to Eat and Drink:

Granted, there are thousands of restaurants in New York and Brooklyn. Although we have lived here awhile, there hasn't been enough time to try them all! These are what we have discovered and found to be our favorites thus far. For more options of every kind of food you can think of, check out the Links section to guide you on yr way.

In Manhattan:
Great Jones Cafe (American) - 54 Great Jones Street, between Lafayette and Bowery.
  - Best burgers and fries EVER! Get there early for easy seating.
Tsampa (Tibetan) - 212 E. 9th Street, between 2nd and 3rd Aves.
  - Fantastic food, clean and tasty. And they have an amazing pear martini.
Petite Abeille
(Belgian) - 134 W. Broadway, between Duane and Thomas Sts.
  - Try the Ragout de Champignons Sauvages.
Cafe Gitane
(French) - 242 Mott Street at Prince Street.
  - Best cappucino, pastries, and salads. Mmmmmmmmm.
Kelley and Ping
(Asian) - 127 Greene St.
  - Southeast, Chinese, Eclectic/Global, Korean, Thai - great noodles shop.

Supper (Northern Italian) - 156 E 2nd St between Ave A & B.
  - Osteria and wine bar; serves breakfast and lunch.

S'Nice (Vegan) - 45 8th Ave, at W 4th Street.
  - Cafe atmosphere - excellent sandwiches, deserts, and coffee.
There's one in Brooklyn, too.
Kate's Joint (Vegan) - 58 Avenue B, at E 4th St.
  - Vegetarian and Vegan fare; great breakfast.

Lil' Frankie's (Italian) - 19 First Ave, between 1st and 2nd Streets.
  - Great cupcakes and sweets.

Sugar Sweet Sunshine (Bakery) - Rivington Street, between Essex and Norfolk.
  - Great cupcakes and sweets

In Brooklyn:
Marlow & Sons - 81 Broadway, at Berry in Williamsburg.
  - Dinner only, no reservations. Excellent fresh, organic food, and great ambiance. Go for the Brick Chicken, cheese plate, and really good bottle of wine.
Tom's Restaurant (American) - 782 Washington Ave. Open 6am-4pm, except Sunday.
  - Breakfast/diner food, served in old Brooklyn, kitschy atmosphere. Great grits in the city; who'd a thought?!

In Manhattan: Dive bars galore...
2A (East Village) Avenue A, at E 2nd St.
Lakeside Lounge (East Village) Avenue B, between 10th and 11th Street.
The Library (East Village) Avenue A, at Houston.
No Malice Palace (East Village) 3rd Street, at Avenue B.
Local 138 (Lower East Side) 138 Ludlow Street, between Stanton and Rivington Streets.
McSorleys (East Village) 7th Street, at Bowery/3rd Avenue.
  - Claims to be the oldest bar in New York City, and looks it. Beer served on tap, and simple bar food. Highly recommended.
Winnie's (Chinatown).
  - Fun Karaoke Bar - watch out for the glowing green drinks.

In Brooklyn:
Greenpoint Tavern (Williamsburg) Bedford Ave, between N 6th and N 7th Streets.
  - Home of the infamous Beer in a 32 oz Styrofoam Cup for $3.50. Always decorated for the season or holiday of the day.
Monteros (Cobble Hill) Atlantic Avenue.
  - "The bar at the end of the world" as we call it. Classic dive bar that at one point catered to merchant marines. The decor hasn't changed in decades. A pool table in back, an extensive jukebox, cheap drinks, and a friendly atmosphere. An adventure all of it's own.
Pete's Candy Store (Williamsburg) 709 Lorimer Street.
Union Pool (Williamsburg) 484 Union Avenue, at Meeker.
